Overview
Basic information:Dalian University of Technology was established in 1974, and the department of Computer Science and Engineering was founded in 1981. Zhong Wanfo, an academician, was the first head of the department. The electronic information and electrical engineering department at the school of computer science and technology was established in 2009, and then it became a second-class school at the university in 2023. At present, the school has a first-level doctoral degree (i.e., computer science and technology), a postdoctoral mobile station and a first-level key discipline in Liaoning province. In 2011 and 2017, the school has passed the national engineering education professional certification continuously. In 2019, the first batch of the national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and first-class undergraduate education demonstration majors in Liaoning province were approved.
Directions:
(1) Computer Application Technology (focusing on intelligent computing and applications, bioinformatics, computer-aided design, virtual-reality hybrid technology, etc.);
(2) Computer System Architecture (focusing on software-defined network and future network system architecture, data center network, network virtualization technology, etc.);
(3) Computer Software and Theory (focusing on intelligent computing theory, Internet of Things technology and applications, intelligent networked vehicle technology, visual-haptic technology and applications, visual and tactile technology and applications, etc.);
(4) Artificial Intelligence technology (focusing on natural language processing and emotional computing, big data analysis, data visualization technologies).
Advantages and features:
(1) There are 47 full-time staff members in the college, including 25 professors and 19 associate professors, 3 of whom have been selected for the National Talent Programme and 3 for the Ministry of Education's Talent Programme. They have won the second prize of the National Natural Science, the second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress, the first prize of the Natural Science of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of the Natural Science of Liaoning Province, the first prize of the Liaoning Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress, and other national as well as provincial and ministerial scientific research awards.
(2) The college has a computer-aided research center, the State Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Computer Aided Design, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of China for "Social Computing and Cognitive Intelligence", the Intelligent Computing Base of the Ministry of Education of China for Multi-Modal Medical and Healthcare Information, the Liaoning Provincial Engineering Research Centre for the Internet of Things and Cooperative Sensing, the Liaoning Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence of Sensing and Understanding, and the Dalian Databased Intelligence Laboratory of Dalian, Dalian Engineering Research Centre for Big Data Intelligent Processing and Multimodal Cognitive Computing, as well as other key research platforms at the national, provincial and municipal levels.
(3) The school takes advantages of a comprehensive university of engineering and cross-fertilizing with biological, mechanical and management disciplines to cultivate new engineering talents with a "computing+" mindset;
(4) Taking advantages of Liaoning Province's equipment manufacturing, microelectronics, automobile manufacturing, medical and healthcare industries, and developing characteristic disciplines that are deeply integrated with the key areas of the local economy and society;
(5) In the past five years, the university has undertaken more than 70 national projects, such as key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, emergency projects (the first batch in the direction of Artificial Intelligence), national key research and development, and military science and technology commissions, etc. The total number of all kinds of projects is more than 200, with a scientific research input of more than RMB $160 million, and more than 400 papers published in domestic and foreign high-level journals and top-level conferences.
Cultivation Objective:To cultivate senior engineering talents with innovative spirit and practical ability needed for the development of computer science and technology and national economic construction. They are expected to be engaged in the research and applications of computer science in the scientific research departments, educational units, enterprises and institutions, technical and administrative departments.

Influence at home and abroad:Prof. Wei Xiaopeng was awarded the Medal for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. A number of professors have been holding important positions in various national academic organizations, such as the Evaluation Group of the National Funding Committee, the Instruction Committee for Computer Science in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Computer Society, the Chinese Graphic Society, and the Chinese Society of Artificial Intelligence. We successfully hosted the 23rd National Forum for Deans/Department Heads of Computer Science Disciplines in Colleges and Universities, where many academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering attended, including Zhang Yao, Wu Jianping, as well as deans, department heads, experts and scholars of computer science disciplines from over 70 colleges and universities. The discipline has been ranked top 1% of ESI Global Ranking of Computer Science Disciplines for 11 consecutive years since 2009 and top 1‰ since 2019.
In the future, the School of Computer Science and Technology will adhere to the core of cultivating innovative and practical talents, consolidate the fundamental position of talent cultivation, strengthen the construction of professional quality resources, continuously improve the quality of teaching and scientific research, and endeavor to build an excellent talent cultivation base for computer professionals.
